DragonflyIreland
This ambitious four year project, supported by Dúchas The Heritage Service; Environment and Heritage Service (DoE, NI) and the Ulster Museum, will undertake to document the status and distribution of Dragonflies throughout Ireland. The active participation of all dragonfly recorders and naturalists is needed to make this a success.
This project will:
- raise the profile of the group
- encourage a wider interest in wetland conservation throughout Ireland
- map the distribution of Irish species
- highlight key sites, habitats and species
- result in a high-quality publication aimed at both naturalists and the general public
Specific questions to be addressed include:
- where do our resident species occur?
- where are the important sites?
- are there unrecorded species?
- which migrant dragonflies occur in Ireland?
- does the Club-tailed Dragonfly (Gomphus vulgatissimus) occur in Ireland?
- how many colonies of the Irish damselfly (Coenagrion lunulatum) are there?
- does the North American Green Darner (Anax junius) occur in late autumn with north American birds?
