Abstract: The first known record of the crab Paromola cuvieri in Irish waters is noted. The specimen, which was caught in a rockpool near the mouth of Courtmacsherry Harbour, Co. Cork, is described in detail and accompanied with a photograph. The occurrence of this species in Mediterranean waters is observed. Dredgings subsequent to this record found P. cuvieri at greater depths. There is therefore some confusion as to why this apparently deep water species came to be found in a shallow rockpool.
