Abstract: This short note refers to N. Colgan's discussion (Ann. Mag. Nat. Hist. (8), vol. iii., April 1909, pp 354-362) of the marine molluscan (mainly gastropod) practice of attaching 'slime threads' to the water surface for use in descent and re-ascent.
