Abstract: This is a review of the genus Spinther, Annelida, which was established by Johnston in 1845. The type specimen for the genus was lost and there was subsequent confusion over its taxonomy. The author attempts to prove that the annelid specimens found in Lough Larne and Belfast Lough are Spinther oniscoides according to Johnston and not S. oniscoides according to van Graff. Van Graff reviewed the genus Spinther after Johnston and found S. onicoides to be a doubtful species. A taxonomic description of the species is presented with illustrative plates.
