Abstract: An argument is presented against the then conventional wisdom, which understood that the present sea levels have had an undisturbed existence since the dawn of creation. The author describes three eras, two where the land sunk below present levels, and one where the sea level rose above present levels. These periods are described with reference to evidence on the Irish coast such as sunken peat bogs and raised beaches.
