Abstract: A list of marine algae collected from the Saltees is presented. The physical nature of the coastline is described with reference to its associated flora. A high number of species requiring sheltered conditions were recorded. These were thought to have drifted from mainland Zostera beds. The occurrence of Alaria with Ascophyllum was noted, as Alaria occurs on exposed and steep shores, while Ascophyllum is normally found on sheltered sloping shores. The two species were found together at the ends of the Island, where 'the physical nature of the shore...provides in a combined form the conditions essential for each species'. Three species were noted for their interest, Prasiola crispa, Chantransia chylocladiae and Pterosiphonia parasitica.
