Abstract: Notes on sharks recorded from Irish waters are presented. The Basking Shark or Sun Fish Cetorhinus maximus is noted for its abundance, despite being overfished to a point where the fishery was abandoned. The Six-gilled Shark Hexanchus griseus was a new record to Ireland, captured for the first time only in 1912. This species retains certain archaic characteristics found only in the remains of fishes from older geological deposits. Two deep sea species are also noted, the Piked Dog Fish Centrophorus squamosus, and Scymnodon ringens.
