Abstract: This short note records a large drift of Velella spirans, with 'the usual accompaniment of barnacles attached to cork, cinders, etc.', into Valentia Harbour, Co. Kerry following a large gale in mid January. Several days later a young loggerhead turtle was stranded on the same beach. In early February in Bantry Bay, Co. Cork 'a large fleet of Portuguese Men-O-War' arrived.
