Abstract: The paper details a three year study (1986-1989) of age structure and growth of the thick-lipped grey mullet in Strangford Lough, Co. Down. Results suggest a slower growth and a greater maximum length in Irish mullet compared to those found in the Mediterranean. The gonadosomic indices determined from laboratory samples indicated that this species do not spawn in Strangford Lough or areas immediately outside.
