Abstract: Paper looks at an experimental study to establish how hermit crabs deal with obstacles, whether the behaviour is dependent upon the nature of the obstruction and how any 'additional work required by the crab might influence the motivation of the animal to utilize the shell'. Crabs were collected at low tide mark on a beach in Co. Down, Northern Ireland.
