Abstract: This paper records the occurrence of the angler fish Lophius budegassa among a sample of Lophius taken in June 1984 at a depth of 50 m on the Stanton Bank, some 55 miles off the northern Irish coast. A total of 36 fresh specimens of Lophius were examined among which 19 L. budegassa were recorded, with the remaining being L. piscatorius. This sample constitutes the most northerly confirmed occurrence of L. budegassa to date (1985).
