Abstract: Several specimens of the typically estuarine mud-flat polychaete Streblospio benedicti were collected during a routine intertidal sampling programme during 1979 at Aughinish Island in the Shannon Estuary. This is its first record in Irish waters. Notes on taxonomy and nomenclature are given.
