Abstract: A short report on the six-gilled shark, Hexanchus griseus, and the black-mouthed dogfish, Galeus melastomus. As of 1979 they have both been recorded more than 10 times from Irish waters, thus on the basis of the criteria used in the List of Irish fishes (Went and Kennedy, 1976) they can no longer be described as rare. However, they have not been captured or recorded with any degree of regularity. The paper discusses the details of these fish caught in Irish waters.
