Abstract: An appreciation of Michael Long of Dingle who has for the past 27 years (as of 1978) been corresponding with the Zoology Dept. of the National Museum. He has presented to the museum many species of molluscs from the Dingle Bay area, as well as many species of crustaceans, bryozoans, brachiopods, coelenterates, echinoderms and porifera taken from the nets of Dingle trawlermen. He has also added much to the knowledge of invertebrate fauna of the southwest coast of Ireland. He has been responsible for the discovery of 12 invertebrate species hitherto unknown within Irish coastal waters, and many rare species. He has thus extended the previously known limits of distributions of many species.
