Abstract: A short report investigating the extensive shell mounds within the Magilligan dunes, Co. Londonderry. Heights of the shell mounds were compared to known Datums and samples of the shell valves were collected and identified. The length of a number of valves of Arctica, Glycimeris, and Donax were measured and compared to similar measurements from live or freshly killed specimens collected on the adjacent beach. The author concludes that the shell mounds are probably the result of marine processes, particularly during storm periods.
