Abstract: A short paper commenting on the prawn Palaemon squilla, which is apparently rare in British waters. During a survey to investigate the population of young plaice in Strangford Lough, three specimens of P. squilla were caught from three to six metres on a sandy bottom covered with weed. Although P. squilla can be quickly separated form two other more common species, P. elegans and P. serratus, the author postulates that the scarcity of records for P. squilla is due to a failure to distinguish it from the other species.
