Abstract: A short note on a specimen of stone basse or wreck fish, Polyprion americanus (previously P. cernium), captured off the Cork coast. It was taken from a group of fish which looked like the same species and were congregated around a piece of wood covered with barnacles. This association of stone basse or wreck fish with floating timber is commented on, as is its distribution.
