Abstract: This paper comprises an outline of the life of phycologist and zoologist William M'Calla, and reprints of two of his papers, 'On algae new to Ireland' and 'On the Irish Flora and Fauna', originally published as appendices to the Proceedings of the Royal Dublin Society, volumes 82 (1845-46) and 83 (1846-47) respectively. The algal paper also includes some faunal records.
