Abstract: This paper briefly reviews the thermal limits of intertidal and shallow subtidal infaunal bivalves and examines in more detail the respiratory response of infaunal bivalves, particularly Macoma balthica and other Tellinacea with respect to season, geographical distribution and height on the shore. Both summer and winter acclimatised Dublin Bay populations were used.
