Abstract: Paper presents results from research vessel investigations into the whiting, Merlangius merlangus, stock from 1962 to 1967 off the east coast of Ireland. These consisted of a survey comprising periodic trawling cruises, a tin tow-net survey of post larvae in 1966 and three tagging cruises from 1963 to 1965. A system for forecasting the catch from commercial and research vessel data is also given. Ageing was carried out to look at some population ecology.
