Abstract: The phosphate (P2O5) content of sea water was measured for samples taken from the Atlantic Ocean, North Sea and English Channel. Seasonal variations are discussed relative to plankton production, particularly that of diatoms such as Rhizosolenia, and the effects of light and temperature are also considered.
