Abstract: Paper provides a summary of the intertidal habitats and communities found round the Northern Ireland coastline. Findings are based on a survey being carried out since 1984 on behalf of the Dept. of the Environment with a view to ranking sites on the coastline for their conservation value. The coastline is divided into two categories, the open coast and the sea loughs.
