Abstract: This paper discusses the 'European Directory of Marine Environmental Data (EDMED) which is being developed by the British Oceanographic Data Centre (BODC)'. EDMED is being developed as a computer- searchable directory of data sets relating to the marine environment. In addition to computer-based data files, it will also contain references to hard copy data, analogue records, images and geological and biological sample.
