Abstract: This paper describes the distribution of several intertidal species from 96 survey sites all around Ireland. The main objectives of the work were: (1) to provide a reference against which any future change in distribution might be shown; (2) to ascertain as exactly as possible in the field the environmental requirements of the animals chosen; and (3) to relate the distribution of each species directly to the physical environment, or alternatively to look for a common basis in the various distributions such as might suggest the operation of a single factor.
