Abstract: Paper briefly reviews history of the Dublin Bay cockle fishery from 1893-1913 and reports on an investigation of the population of cockles on the South Bull, Dublin Bay in 1971 and 1972. Distribution on the beach and population ecology were investigated. The potential of this cockle population for commercial exploitation is also discussed.
