Abstract: This paper summarizes 3 nationwide (British) sea urchin studies, and 'Urchin '86 - Marine Conserv. Soc.' in more detail. The Urchin '86 study gives distributional information, abundance/frequency, and size frequency of Echinus esculentus along the UK and Irish coast and compares this information with previous studies. The use of volunteer divers in biogeographic surveys is also discussed.
