Abstract: This paper discusses the results of an extensive plankton survey in Killary Harbour, Co. Mayo and Kilkieran Bay, Co. Galway, with reference to levels of sea lice larvae Lepeophtheirus salmonis. Results showed markedly greater presence of sea lice larvae as distance from fish farms decreased. The results are discussed in relation to hydrography, lice output from the farms and possible areas and scales of impact.
