Abstract: This paper gives an account of collections of sponges obtained by the Royal Irish Academy and by the Royal Dublin Society off the west and southwest coasts of Ireland in the late 1800s. The list of sponges includes five species noted for the first time within the Irish area. Some brief descriptions of the sponges' habitats are provided.
