Abstract: This paper presents some preliminary results of the International Fishery Investigation in the Northern European Seas, covering all European waters north of 50° latitude. Areas covered include: seabed topography; water temperature, salinity, dissolved gases and circulation; distribution of juvenile fish; life histories of plaice and cod; fishery statistics. The relationship between hydrographic and biological processes is discussed, using the example of Muggioea distribution in British and Irish waters.
