Abstract: Paper reports on a survey of mussels, M. edulis, from 23 exposed shores around the Irish coast. Length frequency analysis was carried out to 'determine whether direct settlement to adult mussel beds on exposed rocky shores is widespread in Irish waters, and whether such settlement occurs over the mussels' intertidal range'.
