Abstract: The silicate content of sea water was measured for samples taken from the Atlantic between the Faroes and Portugal, including off the south of Ireland, and from the English Channel. Comparison is made with English fresh water samples, and seasonal variations are discussed relative to diatom distribution, particularly that of Rhizosolenia and Biddulphia.
