Abstract: Paper reports on a survey, of the then seldom visited and remote island of Inishbofin, in search of rare species such as Helianthemum guttatum, which had previously been found on the island. The geology and the different coastal and inland habitats are described. The 303 species found during this survey are compared to those collected on the Aran Islands. A number of rare species and a number new to the district were found. A complete species list with place of collection, general habitat features, and note of abundance is presented. The sighting of a 'gigantic cuttle-fish', Architeuthis dux, is also noted.
