Abstract: A brief history of survey work in the area, with descriptions of eight sites surveyed on 5 littoral, 10 dive, and 1 dredge survey on various dates between September 1987 and April 1992. A comparison of mollusc species recorded on these and other recent surveys is made with those recorded by Dickie (1858). In total, 162 species (108 live) have been recorded from Castleward Bay, 54% of the total for Strangford Lough. The degree of overlap between recent and historical datasets is poor, but five species seem to have decreased significantly in abundance in the Bay - Gibbula tumida, Anomia ephippium, Parvicardium scabrum, Clausinella fasciata and Tapes rhomboides.
