Abstract: This paper investigates the response of two groups of Littorina rudis to low oxygen tensions. The groups represented a relatively unpolluted site (Blackrock, Co. Dublin) and one polluted with heavy metals, especially copper (Arklow, Co. Wicklow). There was a significant enhancement of oxyregulatory ability in the groups from Arklow compared to those from Blackrock.... The implications of this enhancement are discussed in relation to the physiology of L. rudis.
