Abstract: Paper investigates the pesticide and PCB levels in the eggs of the cormorant Phalacrocorax carbo and the shag - P. aristotelis. These species are at the top of the coastal food chain, although they have slightly different prey preferences. A total of 18 cormorant and 26 shag eggs were analysed from three sites: Skerries (east coast), Saltees (south-east coast) and West Cork (south-west coast). With one egg per site this represented about 5% and 7% respectively of the Irish breeding population.
