Abstract: Historical extracts relating to coastal erosion in Ireland, including accounts of erosion in counties Wexford and Wicklow are presented. Less detailed accounts on the effects of wind and wave action all over Ireland are discussed. The conclusion was that Ireland was shrinking, and an intensive survey of the coast is necessary as a baseline study to monitor future changes.
