Abstract: The spectral absorption of the violet pigment extracted by acetone from dried specimens of the violet sea snail Ianthina janthina is described. The specimens used were stranded on Ballineden strand, Sligo Bay and Trawalana strand, Mullaghmore, Co. Sligo, west of Ireland in August 1960.
