Abstract: This paper gives observations on the nematocysts of Hyromedusae and includes descriptions of the nematocyts of 12 species. These include 4 species caught off the southwest and west coasts of Ireland. Bythotiara murrayi Gunter, off the coast of Kerry, Chromatonema rubrum Fewke off the coast of Mayo, Dipleurosoma typicum Borck off Valentia, Co. Kerry and Melicertum octocostatum (M. Sara) off the Isle of Arran.
