Abstract: The objective of this paper is to demonstrate inter-specific variation in methods of reproduction among the actinians, and so to emphasize the importance of the concept of speciation. Sea anemones from Britain and from Valencia Island, Co. Kerry, were studied for method and season of reproductive activity. Rates of natural and induced reproduction were experimentally measured. The effect of mode of reproduction on morphology and speciation is discussed.
