Abstract: This paper presents some of the results obtained from hydrological, chemical and biological measurements made during a brief survey of Dunmanus Bay, Co. Cork, which was reported to be experiencing a red tide. Levels of the dinoflagellate Gyrodinium aureolum had reached in excess of 1 million cells/litre. Data collected during the routine phytoplankton monitoring programme conducted by the Fisheries Research Centre at fish farm sites in the area are also presented.
