Abstract: This paper describes levels of nitrate, phosphate and salinity in water samples from the Plymouth area, and nitrate levels from the Celtic Sea, in 1926. Nutrient availability and circulation are examined in relation to phytoplankton production. Inputs of nitrate from land drainage sources are also assessed.
