Abstract: The burrowing ophiusoid Amphiura filiformis is a dominant member of a silty sand community in Galway Bay, Ireland. High populations occur in sediment with a silt/clay content of 10-20%. The species has been under investigation at a fixed monitoring site since 1974. Adults have consistently accounted for 95% of the population suggesting low annual recruitment. There has been a declining trend to 1980, following evidence suggesting a rise in numbers.
