Abstract: This is the eighth paper in the 'Investigations of the plankton of the west coast of Ireland' series. The results summarise data on the seasonal and diel variations in the abundance of Peracaridea (Amphipoda, Isopoda, Mysidacea, and Cumacea) in the hyponeuston and surface plankton of Galway Bay. 'The adaptive functions of pelagic behaviour and its consequences for benthic community dynamics are discussed'.
