Abstract: This is the third paper in the 'Investigations of the plankton of the west coast of Ireland' series and reports on an investigation of the pelagic copepods in the plankton of Killeany Bay, Aran Islands, carried out over a 12 month period. Seasonal distribution, relative abundance and sex ratios are dealt with in broad terms for Calanus finmarchicus and C. helgolandicus. Brief reference is made to life histories. The sampling methods are described in detail. A note on species differentiation, with an account of their general distribution, and their distribution in Irish waters is also included.
