Abstract: Abstract only. This paper examines the effects of intertidal shellfish farming on existing biota, particularly in six Special Protection Areas (SPAs) where the impact on bird populations is likely. Recommendations include provision of a coastal management plan, code of practice for shellfish farmers and improved legislative powers for the Department of the Marine.
