Abstract: Paper quantifies the incidental capture of shark species in bottom-set gill-net fishing carried out on 40 commercial trips between February 1993 and January 1994 off the south coast of Ireland. The seasonal distribution of observed fishing effort and the species and rate of incidental capture of elasmobranchs are given. The impact of incidental capture on elasmobranch populations is discussed.
