Abstract: Abstract only. Tissue concentrations of iron, zinc, manganese, chromium, cobalt, copper, nickel and aluminium were analysed from Mytilus edulis collected at the south coast of the Shannon Estuary. Metal concentrations were highest in the byssus, gill, gonad and digestive gland and lowest in the shell and pooled sample. The highest metal concentrations were recorded for iron and aluminium. Principal components ordination of the data indicated clustering of certain organs, which may be acting similarly with respect to bioaccumulation.
