Abstract: Age, frond weight, frond area, strip length and other data were recorded for plants of Laminaria hyperborea growing off the southwest of England and in Lough Hyne in the southwest of Ireland. It was concluded that water turbulence, particularly wave action, is an important factor influencing the changes in frond structure.
