Abstract: Abstract only. Malachite green is an ectoparasiticide and a fungicide used in the fish farming industry. Its use is of concern as it has teratogenic properties. This study analysed samples of sediment, water and vegetation from farm sites in Ireland and the U. K. by chromatographic methods for their malachite green content. It was found that malachite green was rapidly removed from the aqueous phase by dilution. Results suggested that it was biodegraded via N-denetlypletion.
