Abstract: This paper describes the characteristic of the spider crab fishery off the Irish west coast (Kilkieran Bay, Co. Galway) and the behaviour of spider crabs towards baited pots and towards each other in the presence of baited pots in laboratory trials. Laboratory trials are used to interpret the results of fishing trials at sea.
